Driver CPC (new requirement from 2008)

The Driver CPC scheme was launched in September 2008 for PSV Drivers and then September 2009 for Drivers of vehicles 3.5 tonne or above. The Driver CPC is for LGV and PCV drivers who drive professionally. It has been developed as a requirement of the EU Directive 2003/59, which is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of professional LGV and PCV drivers throughout their working life.

There are two parts to the legislation: Initial qualification. This must be obtained by all new LGV & PCV drivers along with their vocational licence to enable them to use their licence professionally. Periodic Training 35 hours of training every 5 years must be attended by all professional drivers. The course consists of 5 Modules split into 2 sections per module, this training can be split into separate courses such as one day a year for example, or as a one block of 35 Hours in a week.

  • Module 1 Drivers hours and analogue / digital tachograph
  • Module 2 Vehicle and load handling systems, safe vehicle loading
  • Module 3 Principles and techniques of safe, defensive and economic driving
  • Module 4 Health and Safety in transport, personal well being, transport health and safety
  • Module 5 Company procedures and customer care, secure transport operations
